{Easy} Breakfast Smoothie

Smoothies are an easy way to combine healthy ingredients for a tasty breakfast.  Before I share my recipe, I want to divulge some tricks that make the process even easier. First, I keep my frozen smoothie supplies all together in a box.

And did you know that you can freeze bananas? You don't need to wait until they are over ripe. But when they look like these, they need to be used or frozen. Here is a bunch I had on my kitchen counter this morning.

One banana went into my smoothie. The other three were peeled, nestled side by side into a freezer bag, and dated.

This way, when I need banana, all I need to do is remove the bag and slice some off the clump, like this:

Return the unused portion quickly to the freezer.

Another hint is to buy organic baby spinach and freeze it right away.  I buy a HUGE box of it at Cost-Co and stick it right into the freezer. The next day, I put the frozen leaves into a freezer bag and crush them down to condense the bulk. (I also use this spinach in my quiche and my easy crock pot lasagna.)

Now it is time to share my recipe. Each ingredient is referenced with a link to an article on it's health benefits.

Becky's Easy Breakfast Smoothie
( Add ingredients in this order and blenderize until smooth.)
3/4 to 1 cup almond or coconut milk (unsweetened)
One banana, peeled
One handful blueberries
One handful strawberries
One handful raspberries
On huge handful frozen spinach leaves
1 TBSP ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground ginger
A glop of  Greek yogurt (optional)
You can add honey or molasses (I usually don't)

I don't like swallowing pills, so I also open up these three capsules and add to the mix: D3, Co Q-10 and C. And I add a heaping tablespoon of Hemp Protein Powder

Pop in a straw and enjoy.

  1. Thanks for sharing, sweet lady :) You know, I knew you could freeze bananas, but for some reason I had it in my head to freeze them when they were very ripe for banana bread. I will now be freeing bananas more often thanks to you :) Have a good weekend. Hugs!

    1. You are welcome, Shephanie! Yes, that's all I would do with frozen bananas too! Until one day there were no fresh bananas left, only the frozen...Eureeka!
