  1. All your ferments look tasty! Just made 5 gallons of kombucha today. We drink it every night... Kefir in our morning smoothies and we ferment cabbage and cucumbers. But, kvass it next on the list! Also curious what you put in your kefir cheese dip? danke! :)

    1. JES, I've been experimenting with the kefir dip. My husband really likes it with some of our " magic dust," which is made from a combination of paprika, Celtic salt, mustard powder, chili powder, cumin, black pepper, garlic and cayenne. I like it with fresh garlic and green onion. The beet kvass surprised me; I really like it! I haven't fermented cukes yet. Will you share your recipe with me?

    2. Ooh, the fresh garlic and green onion sound good! I will try that combination. For my cukes, I used my blogging friend Jaquelines' recipe here: http://www.deeprootsathome.com/lacto-fermented-pickles-no-canning/ P.S. I let my cucumbers go for longer than she suggest (4 weeks)... Enjoy!

  4. I love all of your laboratory photos! How industrious you are...I haven't made kombucha yet, but my daughter is bringing me a scoby this week - I can't wait to get started with that. Isn't this fermenting journey a fun one. I love your big yellow pyrex bowl; I have one just like it that I inherited. (We lived in Germany for 3 years, many moons ago.) Guten tag.

    1. You are going to love kombucha. Our favorite is green jasmine tea with blueberry cranberry for the 2nd ferment. I inherited the yellow bowl. ~Blessings

    1. Yes, JES, on the first ferment, I use 1/4, then I use finished kvass and the beets for a second round. (I use this recipe...including the reduced salt suggestion...http://gnowfglins.com/2011/08/12/beet-kvass/)
